ALL to Protest Pro-abortion Speaker at Georgetown: Washington's Cardinal McCarrick Can Act to Stop Continued Scandal (but he won't...)
4/8/2004 7:27:00 PM by Joseph M. Starrs, director of ALL's Crusade - www.all.org
Washington, D.C. - American Life League's Crusade for the Defense of Our Catholic Church will lead a peaceful protest today, Wednesday, April 7, outside a planned speech at Georgetown University by a pro-abortion Catholic, Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.). Joseph M. Starrs, director of ALL's Crusade, issued the following statement:
"Once again, Georgetown University's adherence to Catholic teaching is being called into question. This time, it's an on-campus appearance by a Catholic elected official whose political stance in favor of legal abortion is well known. It is up to Cardinal Theodore McCarrick, as archbishop of Washington, to remind the administration that one cannot be both Catholic and pro-abortion.
"The power to end this abuse rests in the hands of the Church's shepherds. Cardinal Theodore McCarrick of Washington, Archbishop Sean O'Malley of Boston and other American bishops have a duty to prevent further public shame. We implore Cardinal McCarrick to bar pro-abortion individuals from speaking at Catholic facilities, and we implore bishops across the country to follow the example of Archbishop Raymond Burke of St. Louis and deny Holy Communion to political figures who espouse a pro-abortion agenda.
"Our protest will drive home a simple truth of the Catholic faith, which we're reminding our bishops of their duty to reinforce: you cannot be a Catholic in good standing and support abortion in any way. "
